Lesson 2 of 5

Certificates and licences that raise your pay

Which papers employers look for in common trades.

3 min +10 points

Why papers matter

Many employers pay more, or only hire, people with the right certificate or licence. It proves you have learned the work safely.

Examples by trade

  • Drivers: a valid driving licence for the vehicle type. Commercial vehicles need a transport licence.
  • Electricians: a trade certificate (for example from an ITI) and the licence or permit your state asks for.
  • Cooks and food handlers: food safety training under FSSAI's FoSTaC programme is valued by hotels and restaurants.
  • Security guards: agencies need trained guards; ask about the training certificate before joining.
  • Patient care: courses like General Duty Assistant are valued by hospitals and home-care agencies.
