What is a spreadsheet?

A spreadsheet is a table of boxes called cells. Columns have letters (A, B, C), rows have numbers (1, 2, 3). Cell B2 is column B, row 2. Use Excel on a computer or the free Google Sheets app on a phone.

Make a simple list

  1. 1In A1 type "Item", in B1 "Quantity", in C1 "Price".
  2. 2Fill in one item per row below.
  3. 3Make the first row bold so it looks like a heading.

Add up numbers

Click an empty cell under your numbers and type =SUM(B2:B10), then press Enter. It adds every number from B2 to B10. To multiply quantity by price in D2, type =B2*C2.

Where it helps

Store and kitchen stock, staff attendance, daily sales and delivery lists. Knowing basic spreadsheets can help you become a supervisor.
